We are a term-time setting operating 38 weeks of the year and we match our term dates as closely as possible to the local Primary Schools.

For new children joining the setting we require one morning and one afternoon session as a minimum start, this will help your

child to settle in and also provides staff with time to offer exciting and challenging learning opportunities.

As a child approaches Primary school age many families opt for double sessions as it helps them to adjust to a full day setting.

We organise our sessions so that children can choose from a wide range of stimulating activities that build upon their ability to select and work through a task to its completion, enabling them to gain satisfaction and pride in their achievements. We offer resources that are able to be self-selected by the children by having low level storage units that house a variety of different resources. Staff also set-up resources for adult-led activities to ensure children are offered a variety of choice and challenges. The children are encouraged to participate in adult-led activities with small or larger groups of children. These are designed to support your child’s growing confidence enabling them to gain more complex skills as they learn to work with others through social experiences, learning to be a valued member of the setting.

Our Preschool benefits from an outdoor area. This benefits children’s health, enabling development of their physical abilities and their knowledge of the world around them.

Our day

After parents and carers drop off in the morning, children have a short register time.

This is a lovely way to get to know the names of their friends and staff, as well as building on their attention spans and listening skills.

We aim to take the children outside every day, we have a great canopied area which shelters us from rain.

Whenever the weather is fair we use the whole outside area all day.

Snacks

A rolling snack is provided during our morning session. Typical items offered include toast, crumpets, cheese, crackers, fruits of all kinds, and sometimes the snack may be seasonal or tie in with the current topic. Milk and water is available.

Free Play

The children have free play during the morning session, then everybody teams up to tidy the room ready for a short circle time. Circle time may be a story, some yoga, or some singing.

Lunch

During our lunch session children have the option to bring a packed lunch from home or enjoy a hot meal provided on site. Lunch is a fantastic opportunity to discuss healthy eating, colours, numbers, textures and tastes. It’s also useful to develop good table manners and support the children’s independence, as they pour their own drinks, open their own packets and wrappers. All children clear away their plates and lunch boxes, with the support and encouragement from staff.

More Free Play

After lunch we return to free play, then we have another tidy up and circle time, ready for home at 3.30 pm.

The end of session is always marked by our Goodbye song.
